A new round of the Mac vs PC ads are out. Maybe it’s just me, but the Mac ads (while comical) always seem to come across as arrogant. It seems to stem past bashing Windows (and you thought Linux fanboys were bad!) to actually bashing the users. I remember back in the day when I used Windows, and thought to myself, “Did they just?…”
No need to mention the commercials are misleading, if not outright false.
The ads do have a negative effect, especially since they divide the viewers. Sure, the ads are funny, but it could (and does) leave many users who use Windows with no plans to switch thinking that Apple looks down on them. That’s completely opposite of what any other company would do, buy showing the advantages of their system, and not by making fun of the competition. Essentially, the ads spread FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) about Windows. Fear, that the product does not work, uncertainty to whether or not it will work with your computer, and doubt that you are using a quality product.
Yeah, I was a little offended. Sure, I thought Windows was not the best system in the world, but it wasn’t a terrible experience. I also didn’t feel “stupid” for using it. In fact, with a little maintenance, it could run rather well, with few security risks. Sure, it took some effort, but for a computer literate person such as myself, it was really no problem. Of course, the move to Ubuntu was greatly appreciated. The lack of the necessary system maintenance was a load off my mind.
Now that I use Ubuntu, I can feel better than if I were using a Mac. For one, it’s cheaper, and it’s also more secure. I can do everything I need it to do. It runs on almost all hardware, it comes with free upgrades, has all the software I need, and I can use it all without feeling like a stuck-up jerk. What could be better?
