Ever since I have been dual-booting off my computer with Ubuntu and Windows XP, I have been testing out my new headset, which allows for me complete some work I had to do for school. I ran across a feature, however, that I really didn’t expect.
I had installed Office 2003 on my computer (again for school) when a message popped up from a toolbar, undocked from the taskbar. That toolbar was the language toolbar. It told me that if I wanted to use my microphone on my headset, I would need to configure it. It lead me through configuration screen after configuration screen, where I read out-loud some words here and there.
I was then informed that I could use my microphone to run commands in Office! I would say “file” and the file menu would drop down. The same went for many other menu. But then came the kicker: I could use my microphone to write text into my document!!!
It works surprisingly well, with amazing accuracy. I give credit where due, and Microsoft has really outdone themselves this time.
