Converting to Ubuntu

I know that this post is off the topic of Ubuntu LoCo stuff, but here goes…

I must admit that at this point, I have been unable to switch over anyone in my family to Ubuntu. There are a total of 2 computers in my family, and both run Windows XP. We all know that XP is indeed an aging system, and it does not really bother me that they use it, after all, it is their choice. Obviously, since I have really become more involved in the Ubuntu project, I have been telling my family and friends about how Linux is different from what they think. They have all seen Linux as an outdated CLI operating system.

I have had a few close calls. Just a week ago, my sister’s computer started having problems, a trojan, and numerous other issues. I had installed AVG Free, which took care of the trojan, however her programs were not acting as they should. After restarting several times, she was able to get things working again. I was so close that the disk was on the desk next to her computer.

At least my dad is considering something else. He wants either a Mac, or yes, even Dell w/ Ubuntu installed!

Hey man, good luck with that… I convinced my step-mother (if you wanna call her that, she married my dad when I was 23) to switch over, and my mom is next.. got a couple friends based on the user control, because their kids are bad bad people. lol
